School Spotlight: Cavalier & Dariol

One of the greatest joys we share as an organization is the help we are able to offer to the young students in rural Haiti who are receiving a Christ-centered education. With the support of so many of you, hundreds of students have gone through our eight supported school programs and grown up to give back to their respective communities. Most of the volunteers at the radio station, for example, were at one time a young student in a Gospel Growers supported school. It’s because of the commitment and dedication of so many that Gospel Growers has been able to support these children in their growth and development into young, contributing Christian adults. We are grateful.

As a special spotlight this year, we’d like to highlight two of our schools, Dariol and Cavalier.

The School at Cavalier is overseen by Mr. Octive Etienne (pictured below). As of this school year, there are a total of 66 students grades kindergarten through grade 6. The kindergarten is the largest class, containing a total of 28 students (11 girls, 17 boys). Further breakdown of the classes can be seen in the chart that follows. Students came together this past Easter to participate in a special Easter meeting, where they learned about the resurrection of Jesus and the beauty of the Christian story. The image below shows the kindergarteners sharing a meal at this special meeting.

Dariol is another school supported by the mission, right in the little town of Dariol where Sam spent so many of his years living in Haiti. Dariol has a total of 110 students this year. The kindergarten class is similarly the largest of the 7 classes run at the school. There are a total of 31 students in this class (17 girls, 14 boys). The following chart includes the breakdown of each of the remaining classes. The photos below are a snapshot of each class (kindergarten through grade 6) with their lead teachers.

Students complete their first 7 years of education at the Gospel Grower supported schools, and if they would like to continue their education, they then have to move on to schools in the larger city, such as Les Cayes or Port au Prince. Throughout the years, Gospel Growers has supported individuals in this endeavor as well.

Finally, we have a sad update we would like to share. The director and pastor at our Metayer school has recently passed away. He was a much loved leader and pastor, and he will be greatly missed by many. Pastor Rodrigue has been with the mission for nearly 20 years. Please keep his wife in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

At Gospel Growers, we continue to be grateful for all the love and support shared by so many. Thank you for another successful school year.
