Highlight: Labiche School & Radio Semence Agriculture

School will soon be out for the summer at our 8 supported schools, and the radio station has been working hard to support the local communities through agricultural education. Moving forward, we hope to provide more regular updates on the happenings of Gospel Growers. Today’s blog will highlight another of our schools, Labiche, speak about the special agricultural program provided by Radio Semence, and introduce everyone to our two newest board members.

Labiche is one of the eight schools supported by the mission. It is overseen by Pastor Djems Berlus (pictured below). There are a total of 43 students (25 girls, 18 boys) this academic year, grades kindergarten through grade 6. Like each of the schools we support, students are given academic and Biblical teaching to equip them for the future.

On May 1, Radio Semence presented a special program where they educated farmers on the importance of agriculture and highlighted some new techniques. They also distributed machetes, hoes, and picks (pictured below) to farmers in the area. The program was a success and much appreciated by the local communities. All programming by Radio Semence can be watched on their Facebook page, linked here .

Finally, we have two new members we’ve added to our board here at Gospel Growers, Nathan Miles and Elwyn Neuman. Nathan has been a longtime supporter of the mission, and he is also the son of fellow board member Mark Miles. He works as a master electrician in Texas, where he lives with his wife, Marinna. Elwyn is a retired nurse, and with her twin sister, Evelyn, visited Haiti some years ago. It was then that she fell in love with the Haitian people. She and her husband Sam live in Georgia. She is very active in her Church and other activities. We are grateful to them both for joining the board to help steward the mission here in the US.

As spring is upon us and summer is just around the corner, let us remember “[f]or as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.” Isaiah 61:11. Please continue to pray for Haiti.
